At the COP29 conference, held in Baku from November 11 to 22, 2024, EUROfusion reaffirmed its commitment to the ITER project, highlighting its pivotal role in advancing fusion energy research. EUROfusion’s support is instrumental in preparing for ITER experiments and developing concepts for future fusion power plants, such as DEMO.
ITER, a global collaboration involving 35 nations, is constructing the world’s largest fusion experiment to demonstrate the feasibility of hydrogen fusion as a large-scale, carbon-free energy source. EUROfusion’s contributions are crucial in achieving ITER’s objectives and advancing fusion research.
“We experienced a huge amount of interest about fusion energy and most of the people haven’t heard or had little knowledge about it, so it is crutial to take these opportunities to talk about fusion energy in general and what we are doing in it.”
Said Tamás Szabolics, Communications officer of EUROfusion.
EUROfusion’s participation at COP29 underscores the importance of international collaboration in fusion research and the organization’s dedication to supporting ITER’s mission. By sharing insights and progress, EUROfusion aims to foster a deeper understanding of fusion energy’s potential in addressing global energy challenges.
