Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI)

The Ruđer Bošković Institute is Croatia’s leading scientific institute in the natural and biomedical sciences, marine and environmental research. It coordinates Croatia’s participation in the European Fusion Programme. It is tasked with providing all relevant stakeholders with information regarding participation in the Fusion Programme, and the construction of ITER and DONES.

The RBI gathers a total of 1010 staff, including more than 850 researchers. About 30 staff researchers, technicians, PhD candidates and post-docs are engaged in fusion research.

RBI participates in analyses of plasma-facing components and fusion dust particles using Ion Beam Analytical (IBA) techniques at TOF-ERDA facility and Heavy ion microbeam facility, in ion irradiation of fusion nuclear materials by single-beam and dual-beam at dedicated DiFU ion irradiation facility, as well as in design and modelling of components for IFMIF-DONES (Remote Handling equipment, CVD-diamond MicroLoss Monitors, CRDS laser system for lithium evaporation monitoring, TIR section design and mathematical modelling of error propagation in the DONES accelerator).
