Glossary Term: Toroidal field coils

The toroidal field is one component of the magnetic field in a tokamak. It is generated by magnetic coils around the plasma torus. The toroidal field coils produce a magnetic field within the vessel of a tokamak. This field provides the primary mechanism of confinement of the plasma particles.
